Foster/Adopt Update....

This week we've been talking to social workers and attorneys preparing for next week's court hearing. We were intending to attend the court hearing, but were advised by the children's attorney that they would rather we're not there for this hearing..... they don't want us to have any kind of negative impact on a situation that is playing out very well without our presence in the court room. We're good with that reason. :-)

Please pray all the preparations go well, and everyone is thinking about what is best for the kids - us included.

In my years of directing the fost/adopt program at Olive Crest, it has been my experience that this is incorrect. The childrens' attorneys are not always right about this. I always encourage foster parents to show their face in court. It impacts the judge to see your faces. I always tell parents to get de facto parent status and go to court. Especially at the .26 hearing. You can just show up at court and informally request de facto status. You will definitely be granted it since you have been caring for the children for more than 4 months. If you want more opinions on this, talk to Rachel Lee (Adoption Supervisor) at Olive Crest. Also talk to Carolee Darden... she leads the Adoptive Parent Support Group at Olive Crest...which hopefully you've started attending. Carolee's number is 949-633-2281.

Congrats you guys! If you are already at the .26.... you are rounding third and heading home! Also, if you want professional input on how to manage post-adoptive visitation/contact with birth mom, give The Kinship Center Adoption Clinic a call and schedule an appt. Request Joey Nesler or Sophia (can't remember her last name) or Tim Colvin. The clinic takes the kids' medi-cal so it's no cost to you!!

Let me know if I can be of any addl. help.
